Relationship between text and image

A fine relationship between words and images is vital for picture books. To establish it, picture needs to add to the story what the words leave out. Both the author and the illustrator should have this fact in mind when working on the book.

If you are IN THE ROLE OF THE AUTHOR, you should have in mind the needs of the illustrator and write the text in a way that leaves enough room for the illustrator´s creativity to enhance your story. In my opinion the best way the author can do that is to lead the reader through the action part of the story and entrust the illustrator portraying the mood of the story and details of the narrative´s scenes and characters.
